At Christmas, we are surrounded by images of the ‘perfect’ festive season. Yet, for so many people, the reality of Christmas is far from this.
Christmas is a costly time for us all and the expense of the festive season can often be the focus of the difficulties people face at this time of year.
However, there are other costs of Christmas that we don’t always see in others or recognise in ourselves that can be of far greater significance and much more costly to someone’s wellbeing and mental health.
For many people living with dementia, mental health conditions, learning disabilities and unpaid carers, the festive season brings many challenges.
Including heightened feelings of loneliness and isolation, missing lost loved ones, pressures to take stock and make changes for the New Year, increase in family conflict or feelings of inadequacy comparing our own lives to others.
The emotional and mental health costs of Christmas are real, and for many of the people we support, they can be overwhelming.
Making Space are here to count the real cost of Christmas and support people through this trying time.
We need your help to do this. Please donate today to reduce the true cost of Christmas for people who need our support. Your donation could provide-
Activity groups: For those who feel isolated or alone to connect with others.
Hardship support: Practical help for those struggling to cover the costs of everyday life.
Emotional support: Access to counselling and mental health resources.
Advice and information: Practical guidance, advice and information.
This year, help us make Christmas a time of care, compassion, and support for those who need it most.
Donate today and together, we can ensure that no one has to face the real cost of Christmas alone.
We are also combating the costs of Christmas, by bringing people together with Baking Space coffee mornings and bake sales throughout December. To find out more about Christmas Baking Space click here.
