I'm Liz and I'm teaming up with my friend Lynne, to take on the country's longest zip wire on Tuesday 29th September, to raise money for Making Space service, Rotherham Dementia Carer Support.
I used to attend dementia cafes, run by the team in Rotherham, with my husband Pete who was diagnosed with early onset dementia at 56. The cafes were an easy way to meet up with other people living with dementia and their carers and gain support and advice.
He really loved the music and "singing for the brain" events, where we would sing songs people living with dementia know and love in a safe and friendly space, and I benefited from talking to people in a similar caring role, after Pete died 10 years ago I returned to help at the cafes.
We volunteer to help behind the scenes at different sites for the service, taking and making crafts with people who come to the service, and support with the service's different fundraising events.
We have seen firsthand how hard the service manager and team work to make the cafes a safe and enjoyable place for all attending them.
We decided to help with the fundraising by doing something different and settled on the zipwire. We are excited to be doing the zip wire and hope to raise money to help support this wonderful cause.
