I’m Mayowa and I’m a support worker for Making Space service, Knowsley Supported Housing. On the 18th of July, I will be completing a skydive to raise money for the tenants I work with at the two services I work in for Knowsley, Bracken Court and Lancing Road. Some of the people I work with have dreamt of going on trips away to places like Wales and having a real experience of a holiday away. The money raised can really help people create happy memories which stay with them forever.
We’ve organised trips to places like Blackpool and the people we support still talk about those memories with excitement and happiness. I’ve supported an individual who has never been bowling before and seeing the excitement when they talked about knocking down their first pins was something truly special. Raising money through the skydive means we can create more of these moments that may seem small to some people but means the world to the people we support.
I don’t like heights, I don’t enjoy rollercoasters. This skydive isn’t about thrill-seeking for me, it’s about challenging myself to do something beyond my limit and making the fear I have worth something by connecting more people with our cause. Fear doesn’t decide what I’m capable of! I’m feeling nervous, motivated and determined to complete this skydive and raise money for the people we support.
