March 2025 is Digital Detox Month at Making Space and we want you to take part. We all feel reliant on our phones, tablets and digital devices and often choose to socialise through digital platforms rather than face to face but too much screen time can be harmful to our mental health. So we’re asking you to choose to digitally detox in March and get sponsored to do it. You can raise money for Making Space as a whole or choose a local Making Space service.

Why should I digitally detox?

Taking time out will help you reconnect with others, take time de-stress and avoid the distraction that our screens often provide.

It can also help with sleep, improve mood, reduce anxiety, improve brain functioning, increase focus and reduce eye strain.

Taking a break from our devices can give us time to try new things, spend time outdoors and chat face-to-face to family and friends.

How do I digitally detox?

The choice really is yours. All we ask is that you choose a period of time in March 2025.

You can choose how long you detox for and how you do it.

You could detox for a day, for a week or maybe every Sunday in March.

You could choose to just detox from social media or certain apps.

You could choose to take a break from particular devices.

You could go cold turkey on all screens.

It’s up to you how you manage your detox but phones can be a way of keeping us safe and keeping in contact with loved ones so, please don’t cut yourself off from support and ensure you stay safe during your detox.

How to take part?

- Decide when and how long you want to detox for.

- Decide which devices or apps you’re going to take a break from.

- Join the Making Space Digital Detox Team Fundraiser. Click on the ‘sign up’ button and then create a page for yourself or your team. It’s really important that you create a separate page for your own or your team’s digital detox so, you get your donations and sponsorship money. We would recommend you contact the fundraising team and we can set up the page with you, if you're unsure.

Digital devices are an important part of modern life and we can’t manage without them long term. So, following our detox month we will be providing more information at the end of March on how to learn from our detox, use our devices for good and suggest some useful apps to support our wellbeing.
